Levaquin is considered an antibiotic belonging to fluoroquinolones. The drug is mainly used against infections of bacteria of the kidney, skin, bladder and prostrate. This is mainly seen in aged people and also people who take oral steroids and people who have undergone heart, lung and kidney transplant. The drug has to be discarded if a person has allergies to levofloxacin or other similar antibiotics like ciprofloxacin, moxifloxacin, ofloxacin, norfloxacin and lomefloxacin.
